Stop 101, Standing Mother with Baby by James Gabbert, Minnesota, Styrofoam and Stucco
This one of a kind piece, crafted from carved Styrofoam, covered with exterior “stucco”” and painted with exterior house paint, portrays a new mother contemplating her child’s future. Winds of change ruffle the mother’s hair and skirts, tying into Gabbert’s subject of choice: the human figure in motion.
Gabbert holds a Fine Arts degree from Colorado College. He worked as a retail entrepreneur for most of his adult life before rekindling his passion for sculpture in 2008. Gabbert states, “I intend for my art to be provocative, that is, to provoke the mind, heart or spirit to experience something new or rekindle something forgotten."
