Sponsor(s): US Bank

Fokken is a mixed media sculptor who combines atypical imagery into new hybrid sculptures to explore cultural contexts between generations of people. According to his website, Kylefokken.com, by utilizing found objects in unconventional ways, he establishes his “make do aesthetic,” a common mindset for people around the world as they retool materials to fit different needs. Fokken says, “‘Making do’ is a quality I admire in all people.”

Fokken has shown in multiple museums and art centers throughout the United States and China. A number of his works have been purchased for public art collections including The South Dakota Art Museum, the Hennepin County Library System and the Union Depot Railroad Station in St. Paul and the cities of Hopkins and Sartell. He just completed a sale to the City of Urbandale, Iowa for “The Butterfly Dress” a sculpture that he exhibited in the 2017 Mankato CityArt Walking Sculpture Tour.
