113 Portal Parabola

Stop 113, Portal Parabola by Greg Mueller from Minnesota

Sponsor(s): Minnesota Valley Federal Credit Union & Arthur Gallagher

Mueller’s inspiration and style are grounded in architectonic or participatory sculpture. He is interested in sculptures that ask the viewer to complete the composition by walking through, sitting on, swinging or climbing the sculpture. Portals in particular are of interest as they suggest thresholds, transitions, and transformation. Portals represents leaving one environment and entering another. Challenges in constructing this piece include creating the dynamic energy of a parabola form while still offering the viewer enough physical space to pass through the portal. This work has inspired another Paraboloid Arch Commission that will be installed this summer in a new South Dakota Department of Transportation Round-about Circle.
