The sculptors of this piece are both teachers at Janesville-Waldorf Pemberton. James, an art teacher, was born in Mankato and his artwork can be found around southern Minnesota including 6 pieces in the permanent collection at South Central College. He started creating realistic artwork until a 2 year journey to Athens, Greece influenced a transformation to abstraction.

Demarais teaches industrial art which he says gives him the freedom to be creative, the chance to help others, and the opportunity to be a leader. The creative aspect of Demarais’ teaching profession has compelled him to experiment artistically with different media. He lets the materials he’s working with guide him to the final product.

One frequent hallmark of James and Demarai’s collaborations is the incorporation of their students’ welding practice pads into their work.
